Aanandi Chawla is a student at UWC East Singapore, where she studies Global Politics, Mathematics, and Economics, and has always been drawn to questions about opportunity, inequality, and what determines who gets access to growth. Growing up in Delhi, she became increasingly aware of the stark contrasts that exist within the same city. A discussion in her Hindi class, where students examined why India’s poverty remains more layered than in many other countries is what made this realisation even stronger. It also shaped her understanding that lack of progress, rarely reflects a lack of ability; more often, it reflects a lack of systems that support people, especially women, in moving forward.
These insights stayed with her as she explored the intersection of gender and entrepreneurship during her internship with Typsy Beauty, where she learned how social norms influence consumer behaviour and economic participation.
Beyond academics, Aanandi has been actively involved in community-driven work, contributing to initiatives supporting underserved students in Cambodia and participating in school-led efforts focused on both - environmental sustainability and migrant worker support. Her interests outside the classroom include golf, piano, and western vocals. Essentially serving as spaces where her creativity and discipline can intersect.
FoundHer came about from a combination of these experiences and observations: Through her project, Aanandi aims to create small but meaningful pathways for women to discover their abilities, build up their confidence and, ultimately, find not just opportunity, but also a sense of direction and possibility that they can truly.. call their own.
